Mukwonago is located 30 miles southwest Milwaukee and is split between both Waukesha and Walworth counties. The village has a population of 7,355 with only 101 of these residents living in Walworth County.
The Mukwonago area is home to six different parks that are maintained and supported by the Mukwonago Parks Department. All of these different parks have many amenities available including ball diamonds, picnic areas, disc golf course, trails, and much more. Indianhead Park is located right on the Mukwonago River and has a public beach area so patrons can enjoy the river. The river flows right into the beautiful Phantom and Lower Phantom Lakes. Both of these lakes are decently sized and provide a great opportunity to enjoy the water on a beautiful day. The clear water on Lower Phantom Lake paints a beautiful backdrop of the landscape that you won’t soon forget.
The downtown strip of Mukwonago is full of different restaurants, shops, and attractions to explore. The Mukwonago Red Brick Museum has preserved the history of the area over many years and continues to make sure residents can enjoy it for years to come. There are tons of artifacts and exhibits on display that showcase how life was back in the days when Mukwonago was first founded. It’s a great way to learn about some of the local history through various redesigned rooms.
There’s also tons of local restaurants to pick from in the area. Fork in the Road Restaurant is an American style restaurant that serves up exceptional plates including salads, specialty sandwiches, hone style dinners, and much more. Great food at even better prices makes the Fork in the Road a great spot for the whole family. For a waterfront dining experience, try out Castaway on Phantom. This waterside bar & grill has specialty sandwich baskets, made to order pizza, and some exceptional appetizers, including seared ahi tuna. Whether you’re coming in from a long day on the water, or just want a great way to end a day on dry land, this is the place for you.
